Mark Powell is an artist based in London – having grown up in West Yorkshire he studied Fine art, drawing and painting at Huddersfield University. On the same day as losing his job he went to visit the university’s studios, and got chatting to the head of the department. A few hours later he found himself enrolled on the course and that, as they say, is history.
He swapped from painting to drawing which he has subsequently become best known for – I’ve seen his work several times online, and it’s always been biro drawings on found pieces of paper, old letters, maps or envelopes. The permanency of pen and the materials on which he works, draw you in to each piece. I think knowing that the artist only had one opportunity to make it work is often what’s so appealing about things like this. You can see more from Mark HERE.
