Nikolai Tolstyh, the artist in question, is a Journalist, Bibliophile, Art lover and natural craftsman. It seems that on his journeys throughout the countryside, armed with a trusty Opinel Whittling knife, he’s taken inspiration from nature and found that sometimes in art, it’s good to take the first steps yourself and leave the rest up to the wilderness.
Living in Russia there seems to be no shortage of beautiful and varied landscapes on which to feast the eyes, it’s just a matter of him choosing the appropriate bits (of course, having the neat idea in the first place helps) to help render the textures and patterns of the respective wild animals.
