Design is a discipline which puts stock in the mantra, ‘less is more’. And these ‘There Can Only Be One’ posters from Y&R Shanghai are no exception.
Created for iconic brand Pantone, the adverts show famous characters stripped back to the bare bones of their design – leaving only their colour and their eyes. Although the name brings to mind Highlander, this is undeniably a neat project with a strong idea burning at its heart. Shortlisted for a Cannes Lion 2014, this kooky, minimalist campaign is dipped in pop culture and sprinkled with fun. What more could you ask for from a poster ad?
Fingers crossed Pantone will take heed and rename the colours: Cookie Monster blue, Garfield orange and Kermit green.
