Jeans aren’t just for wearing anymore, they’re for creating wonderful pieces of art. These incredible images are by Ian Berry, who creates intricately detailed portraits and urban landscapes using nothing else than discarded jeans to amazing effect.

Intrigued by the material, texture and the array of colours of denim, Ian found his inspiration for this medium when clearing out his old clothes, when he couldn’t bring himself to throw away his old jeans as they evoked many memories from his childhood. From that moment Denimu was born.

Today Ian exhibits his work all over the world, undertaking commissions, including a portrait of the late Ayrton Senna in which Ian used jeans donated from the Senna family to create this stunning portrait. Other icons include Debbie Harry, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.

It’s hard to believe that these incredible pieces of art are made solely from denim. So next time you’re throwing away your old denim shirt or pair of jeans, just think where they may end up.
