Summer of Colour is a festival combining art, music theatre and performance, initiated by the Turner Contemporary, in Margate.
Influenced by Piet Mondrian, the project takes inspiration from his love of colour and includes a plethora of events such as dance workshops, exhibitions and even a jazz festival.
To celebrate the Summer of Colour, illustrator Alex Foster has designed a map of Margate, detailing all that will be happening in the area.
Speaking of the map, Foster says:
“I’ve had a working relationship with the Turner Contemporary since moving back to Margate from London and I regularly stock print editions in their shop. They mentioned that they would like an art map to display what is happening in Margate over the summer of colour.”
And Foster appreciates presenting illustration in different forms. He adds:
“It can be used as a trail to discover the art events; this gives the illustration a function and works as a print as well as an interactive map.”
I love this project as a great way to show off what this arts and culture festival has to offer, as well as encapsulating a place and its creative spirit.
