Bird Life: An Illustration Exhibition

Illustrator Sarah Edmonds has always been fascinated by all things feathered and flying, and has created a new collection of work which explores the human connection to birds. She uses a fusion of ink, pastels and crayons alongside digital wizardry to create bold and bright worlds. The work ranges from the factual to the fantastic; from a curious gathering in a nocturnal forest and a storm chorus to a bird watching supplies chart and an avian alphabet (extract below left). Birds bring to the fore our curiosity – for both discovering and dancing through the marvels of nature, on and off the beaten track.

The Bird Life collection will be exhibited at Fika Bar & Kitchen on Brick Lane from 2 July-30 September. As part of this collaborative exhibition with Fika, Sarah is transforming the venue into a colourful world of patterns and feathers, including a giant nest, murals and cut out characters. Visitors will have the opportunity to take a birding field trip within the venue, receiving a pair of binoculars with their order and a miniature field guide.

A self taught artist, Sarah spent much of her childhood adventuring around farmyards and forests which fed her imagination until fit to burst! She enjoys drawing wild places, strange faces, curious creatures and cheerful diagrams as well as taking inspiration from the colours and shapes of Scandinavian design. Alongside working on commissioned / client projects Sarah also produces her own range of prints and gifts. Find her on Twitter: @Sarie8 .

The Bird Life exhibition launch party is from 6.00 – 9.30 pm on Thursday 2 July. Follow the exhibition progress on social media with the hashtag #BirdLifeFika or click here to visit the Facebook page.
