52 Dogs is a series of 5 screen prints that tells the narrative of Roald Amundsen’s South Pole expedition in 1911. The prints depict the various landscapes and obstacles that the crew of 4 and their 52 dogs had to overcome.
As the expedition goes on, you see the number of dogs slowly depleting in each image. Not only did Roald use the dogs to pull the sledges, he also used them as a source of food. Roald and his crew were eating the dogs, and also feeding the remaining dogs with their own kind.
